Yup, I just checked it and the software is still working. It's not very active (or not active at all), though, I'm afraid.

I think that after Smitty passed on it went downhill - he was there almost 24/7 so he could answer anybody who came to chat.
Now it's so that somebody comes in, see there's nobody else and leaves again.
The only way to make it work again would be to either get a new chatroom resident or to agree on a certain time/day and be there..

The link is https://chat.newbiesforum.com
Visitors either need to have a chatroom account (that's not a newbiesforum account, the two are not related, not using the same accounts list) or setup an account.

If you would like to test, let me know when you would be there (go in and stay until I show up when I'm not there yet. :D).

That's OK I just thought that it may be something Glynes may like to use till she got her problem solved instead of 'ping ponging' emails.

We could schedule a 'chat get together.' This worked well on another site I was at a while back. Are guests permitted in the chat room?

Any birthdays coming up? :smt002

I guess we could try that. I just found out there's an additional problem, the chatroom doesn't work anymore...
That's because of an update I needed to install and obviously the chatroom software is not compatible with the PHP version we are running on the server now.
I will check around for a chatroom software that will run on my server and will come back here.

About guests being welcome, the chatroom was (and will be if I find new software) independent from the Newbies user database. This means that everybody who wants to use the chat will need to create an account for the chat.

Birthdays? No clue.

That sounds great Gerrit! :) Re: the birthdays, perhaps we could start a list (month and date only). Is that safe? Or you can get the info from us and I will be happy to help to get the chat room going once it's up and running.

Just found out that the software I use for the chat has been updated like 8 months ago. I assume that version will work on my server, I'll check it out one of these days.

Hi Gerrit. I just tried the link in the 'cafe' thread and it opened a new page asking for UID and pw. Do we need to set up a diffierent one or do we use our newbies login info?

You would need to setup a new account. But it will stop there since the software doesn't run with the new PHP version I installed a couple of weeks ago. That was really needed since the old PHP version became obsolete and wouldn't get any security updates from 1-1-19.
