Yes, the next 5, 6 weeks are the peak of the hurricane season.
Hopefully they will stay away from us - Puerto Rico did not fully recover from Maria yet...

Speak of the devil...

This one, soon to be tropical storm Florence, is no danger for the Caribbean islands.

Oh boy..here we go...this one looks to be tracking a bit North of normal, although I wouldn't put anything past some strange weather hiccup. These last few years have been filled with oddball(and dangerous) stuff, or it seems to me, anyway Maybe this one will curl North and sputter out in the colder waters of the Northern Forties of the Atlantic..I hope. Global warming makes me itchy about predicting anything...

Here's the latest news on storms for our area and I don't really like it..

Tropical Depression 9 formed today and it will be a hurricane soon. The track is basically west, straight into the Caribbean:

The two most important models used by meteorologists are not in agreement, which is nothing new, it happens a lot.

The "Euro" takes the storm as a hurricane just south of PR next weekend:
(PR is in the red ellipse, the storm just south of us)

The other model, the one which has been the most reliable over the last years, the GFS, takes the storm also to the Caribbean but the predicted strength is a lot less, barely a tropical storm:

Whatever is going to happen, it sure looks like by next weekend we may have a system, either weak or strong in our backyard. Best case scenario is some rain, hardly wind. Worst case scenario, nah, I don't even want to write down what that could be....

Anyway, we started some preparations, I'm checking the generator, we'll buy like 40 gallons of drinking water tomorrow and we will start buying gas. Food is there, a lot and the main water tanks are full.
Let's hope this will be a non-event. We (as in Puerto Rico) are not ready for another storm or hurricane....

It looks like Isaac is continuing its western track and according to the NHC prediction it will keep doing that.
This way it would stay south of PR.

Gerrit, may I offer my most sincere, fervent prayers for you, your family, and ALL of P.R. during this most horrid of seasons, and if I could, I would send trillions of megabucks, and billions of workers to ease the suffering of just ONE person there, if just a little bit. I didn't respond on the earlier threads, simply because I was too heartsick and tear filled to type, and frustrated to madness that I had no means to help. Forgive me.

Today it's one year and a day after Maria devastated Puerto Rico. We were just looking at the photos I took of our neighborhood on the day after. What a mess it was...

But here we are, alive and kicking and hopefully things will keep on improving on the island because we're not there yet.

Looking at the situation in the Atlantic there are two systems that might develop. The meteorological models don't see much development for these systems. Let's hope they are right!
